Hurricane Florence: North Carolina residents urged to leave

For 62 years, Robert Faircloth has lived in Wilmington, North Carolina.

“I was born here”, he told me today.

“I’m lucky to be here today, but wherever they’re going to send me I’m going.”

It will be the first time Mr Faircloth and his dog have left the area.

“I’ve never seen the president and all these other people talk the way they’re talking,” he said while waiting for an evacuation bus.

So far, it’s estimate more than 1.7 million Americans have heeded the warnings about Hurricane Florence.

The slow-moving storm is expected to bring hurricane winds to America’s east coast within 24 hours.

“It’s a very dangerous storm,” Federal Emergency Management Authority administrator Jeff Byard said.

“This is going to be a Mike Tyson punch to the Carolina coastline.”

Recent tracking maps show Florence stalking near the coast line, increasing the chances of flooding across four states.
