Homemade weapon found after inmates break out in large fight

Surveillance footage in a maximum-security jail in the US has captured a large fight breaking out among inmates.

The two-minute long vision shows about 20 prisoners in the dayroom of the Cook County Jail in Chicago arguing before it quickly escalates into a number of fights on February 16.

The uncontrollable group become more worked-up and begin pushing and punching each other, the footage released by the Cook County Sheriff’s Office shows.

After about one minute, 20 or so prison guards enter the dayroom and wrestle a number of prisoners to the ground in an attempt to break up the mob action fight.

It appears the inmates are told to lie face-down on the ground and their bodies are searched.

A homemade weapon was found after the brawl, a police statement said.

Two inmates were taken to local hospitals for treatment of injuries including puncture wounds, police stated.

Others were treated at the jail.

Sixteen detainees have since been charged with mob action.
