Home collapses after Nagasaki landslide

A house has broken apart like it was made of sand after a landslide caused it to topple over and crash into a row of homes in Japan.

Almost a week of heavy rain had left the home, in the city of Nagasaki, balancing precariously on a cliff.

The combination of erosion and gravity eventually proved too much, and the home was filmed tumbling down yesterday.

Luckily all the homes were unoccupied at the time as residents from the neighbourhood had been evacuated the day before, Japan Times reports.

The island of Kyushu has been battered by torrential rains since Tuesday.

More than 300mm of rain fell on Tuesday and Wednesday, including 60mm in one hour in Nagasaki, according to the National Meteorological Agency.

An elderly man was buried alive as a result of another landslide, but later was rescued and is now recovering in hospital.
