Hillary Clinton has won Saturday's Democratic presidential caucuses in Nevada, US networks projected, giving her a much-needed victory over rival Bernie Sanders in the race for the White House nomination.

"To everyone who turned out in every corner of Nevada with determination and heart: This is your win. Thank you," Clinton tweeted, shortly after Fox News and NBC News called the contest in her favor.

With roughly two-thirds of precincts reporting, Clinton was at 52.2 percent to 47.7 percent for Sanders.

Clinton had bet big on a victory in Nevada, leveraging her popularity with Latino and other minority voters.

Victory in Nevada for the former secretary of state had once been seen as a foregone conclusion, but Sanders gathered steam after trouncing Clinton in New Hampshire on February 9. Clinton won the Iowa caucuses by a hair on February 1.
