Herd of elephants save tiny calf from drowning

A pack of loyal elephants have proved their loyalty to the herd by banding together to save a tiny calf from drowning.

Video of the rescue posted on October 31 showed a group of the giant beasts approaching the middle of a fast moving river, when Faa Mai, the largest of the herd, decided to lay down, accidently knocking over the elephant next to her.

This created a domino effect which ended with the youngest, Dok Rak, being pushed underwater.

The herd quickly surrounded the drowning calf and pulled it safety from the water before helping it cross to dry land.

The incident occurred at Thailand’s Elephant Nature Park sanctuary in the Mae Taeng District near Chiang Mai.
