Firefighters in California have released dramatic helmetcam footage showing the critical moment they rescued three children from a burning home.

The rescue workers arrived at the property in the city of Fresno last week to investigate reports of smoke coming from the house.

But the job took on an unexpected urgency when it was confirmed the house was on fire and that three children had been left inside unattended.

“We’ve got three kids inside. Three kids in the back,” one of the firefighters calls out as he bursts inside the smoke-filled inferno.

Vision taken from the helmetcams of two of the firefighters shows the rescuers running out of the house carrying the children, aged from 1 to 4 years, in their arms.

The Fresno Fire Department said the firies were able to locate and remove the kids within four minutes of arriving on the scene.

“The firefighters would say it’s just their job. But to get a rescue of this magnitude is something we really don’t come across every day,” the department’s public information officer, Agapito Martinez, said.

The children were taken to hospital where they were treated for critical injuries due to smoke inhalation.
