Prince Harry to return briefly to UK post-Gallipoli centenary

Prince Harry will squeeze in a quick visit to London after attending the Anzac commemorations in Gallipoli before then returning to Australia to complete his month-long military exchange.

If the timing is right he could even meet his new baby nephew or niece.

Harry's older brother, Prince William, and his wife Kate are expecting their second child any day now.

Prince Harry will head home to present medals at the London marathon on Sunday after attending multiple World War I anniversary services on the Gallipoli peninsula on Friday and Saturday.

"Prince Harry will briefly return to the UK this weekend following the Gallipoli commemorations in Turkey to attend the London marathon as patron of the London Marathon Charitable Trust," Kensington Palace said in a brief statement on Tuesday.

Harry is travelling to Turkey with Australian Defence Force (ADF) personnel on a RAAF aircraft.

At Gallipoli he'll join his father, Prince Charles, at international and Commonwealth services on April 24, as well as the Australian and New Zealand commemorations on April 25.

Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott will be on the peninsula along with his New Zealand counterpart, John Key, and other high-profile leaders from the United Kingdom, Ireland, France and Turkey.

After Saturday's centenary services Prince Harry will return to the UK with the Prince of Wales.

The 30-year-old will privately travel back to Australia on Monday to begin the second phase of his military attachment to the ADF.

Harry, known as Captain Wales in the army, is a veteran of two Afghanistan tours.

He kicked off his month-long military exchange to Australia in early April.
