Picky eater: Harris drops 6kg because he 'can't stand prison food'

Convicted child sex offender Rolf Harris has shed more than 6kg behind bars because he does not like the taste of prison food, according to a UK source.

The 84-year-old disgraced entertainer, who previously enjoyed eating curried lobster and roast quail, has had to make do with tuna salads and low-fat chicken curries at HMP Bullingdon in Oxfordshire, The Sun reports.

"This is a world away from what he is used to," a source told the newspaper.

According to the Ministry of Justice, prisoners must be served three healthy meals a day.

Breakfast is limited to a continental-style breakfast while there are a minimum of five options for the other two meals.

There must be at least one hot meal, as well as one vegan option, one vegetarian and one Halal.

Typical lunch options include cous cous with bread, a variety of sandwiches and pasta salad boxes.

Shepherd's pie, pasta bake, white fish in tomato and basil sauce and Halal chicken curry make up the common thoroughfare for dinner.

Caterers must use oatmeal "for coatings or to add to crumbles and other suitable dishes" where possible, according to the Ministry of Justice.

And desserts should be decorated with fruit rather than piped cream.

Harris, who is serving five years and nine months over 12 indecent assaults, has had a tough time settling in to prison life and was branded a "hate figure" shortly after his arrival, one inmate said.

In July, he was spat at by a fellow prisoner during a church service, sparking a mass brawl.

When the spittle missed Harris and struck another inmate, a grapple broke out between the two prisoners, prompting officers to intervene.

Two weeks ago, it also emerged inmates were angered by Harris' appointment as prison gardener, a job one prisoner had reportedly been waiting 12 months for.

But he has since won a few over by signing drawings and gifting them chocolate, leading him to be nicknamed the "Candy Man".

In addition to being stripped of a number of career accolades, Harris' multi-million dollar fortune is now at risk from potential compensation claims.

The performer will soon learn if an application to appeal his conviction is allowed to proceed.
