Handshake fail leaves Cameron red-faced

An awkward handshake snub has left UK Prime Minister David Cameron red-faced with a NATO delegate appearing to ignore the world leader in favour of Barack Obama.

The pair were arriving at the NATO summit in Newport, south Wales yesterday and both moved to shake hands with waiting delegates at the same time.

While President Obama was warmly greeted by the first of the group the unnamed man then followed the US President with Mr Cameron trailing behind unacknowledged.

The UK leader went in for no less than three handshake attempts with his final try ending only a centimetre from the delegate's chest directly under his nose but the man only had eyes for President Obama.

The cringeworthy moment was spotted by a viewer during the BBC News and has been shared online thousands of times with the most popular version set to the strains of Simon and Garfunkel's 'Sounds of Silence'.
