Girl filmed dangling from ferris wheel after toppling out of basket

New detail has emerged about the dramatic rescue of a young girl who was filmed dangling from a giant ferris wheel in Nepal.

Video posted to YouTube earlier this month showed staff at the Bhrikuti Manday amusement park in Kathmandu frantically scaling the wheel in rainy weather to reach the terrified girl, who was forced to hold on for dear life after falling from her seat.

A group of people gathered below chatted anxiously as the workers reached the victim with only seconds to spare.

Now, one witness has revealed that the girl fell out of the ride's basket after trying to stand up midway through the ride and was left hanging from one of the ride's metal supports.

But Sikum Lumbu, who captured the incident on film, says she was not entirely to blame for the accident.

"From my point of view the rides at the amusement park are still not fully safe," he said.

"The machine are old and the belts of many rides are also in need of repair."
