German zoo welcomes new male polar bear cub

A German zoo has unveiled its new polar bear cub for the first time.

The male cub was born on November 3 but could only be separated from its mother for an examination this week. 

In a video posted by Tierpark Berlin’s YouTube channel on Thursday, the small bear can be heard shrieking for its mother.

"The little one did really well and was very curious," zoo director Andreas Knieriem said in a statement.

The zoo said the young bear was 67cm long and weighed 4.6 kilograms.

The cub is yet to be named, with a local radio station and newspapers taking submissions.
