German park reopens after massive fire forces evacuation of 25,000 guests

Germany's largest amusement park has reopened its doors after a huge fire destroyed a popular ride and other parts of the venue.

More than 25,000 were onsite in Europa-park in the town of Rust, when a fire ripped through a storage facility on Sunday and completely destroyed the "Pirates of Batavia" ride.

Photos and video posted to social media showed the inferno engulfing a large part of the park, sending huge plumes of black smoke into the sky.

But today Europa-park was open for business, despite large sections of the Dutch and Scandinavian-themed areas still closed because of fire damage.

Seven emergency rescue officers were reportedly injured, as almost 250 firefighters worked through the night to bring the fire under control.

Investigators are still trying to establish how the fire started.

Founded in 1975, Europa-park advertises itself as Europe's second most popular theme park, behind Disneyland Paris.
