A waiter at a Mexican chain restaurant has gone above and beyond the call of duty after he assisted a patron with no hands with eating his meal.

Alex Ruiz, 22, a waiter at the Douglasville, Georgia branch of Cinco de Mayo, was photographed holding up what appears to be a piece of food for the customer to eat.

The photo was posted to the Facebook account of fellow customer Reginald Widener earlier this week and has since gone viral.

“This seriously hit me right in the soul,” Mr Widener wrote.

“[There are] still good people in the world.”

Mr Ruiz said the customer came asked for help after he came into the restaurant to order a meal.

Mr Ruiz then obliged, making small talk with the patron before offering him a ride home.

“I saw a man who needed help. I did what I thought was right,” Mr Ruiz told CNN.

“It makes me very happy to help people.”
