A series of 'terror tunnels' in Gaza once used by Hamas to ambush Israeli soldiers have been turned into a tourist attraction for children.

In a video posted by the Times of Israel, children can be seen running through the concrete lined military tunnels lined with propaganda posters of fallen al-Qassam soldiers.

It's the first time the hidden tunnels have been opened to the public since the start of the Gaza conflict, Times of Israel reports.

Hamas’ decision to unlock the hidden passageway is thought to be a means of improving the group's image among the Palestinian population.

The tunnels were the focus of Operation Protective Edge which began on July 8, 2014 and lasted for 50 days.

During the operation Israel Defense Forces (IDF) destroyed 36 tunnels leading directly from Gaza into Israel.

At least 2,000 Gazans died, some 50 percent of them civilians during the operation.
