Former Mother of the Year pleads guilty after bizarre rape plot

A Californian Mother of the Year recipient has pleaded guilty to stalking charges after taking out an online advertisement calling for people to rape a woman who outbid her on a house.

Kathy Rowe, 53, told authorities she was suffering from extreme stress and was so "devastated" a couple outbid her for her Carmel Valley "dream home" that she played a series of what she called "pranks" on the couple.

Posing as the wife, Rowe took out online advertisements asking strangers to rape her while her husband was away.

"I love to be surprised and have a man just show up at my door and force his way in the door and on me, totally taking me while I say no," Rowe wrote having titled the ad, 'Carmel Valley Freak Show'.

The ad is known to have attracted one man who arrived at the couple's home only to be deterred by a locked gate.

After emailing Rowe, she encouraged him to try again but the man left when the husband answered at the door.

Rowe entered into a plea bargain deal where she pleaded guilty to stalking in exchange for lawyers dropping charges of soliciting rape, and identity theft and harassment.

Rowe won a local 'Mother of the Year' award in 2006 for her work with her disabled daughter.

She will be sentenced on January 9 and could face up to three years in prison.

Rowe has also reached an out-of-court money settlement with the couple.
