Footbridge in Ecuador smashes into road after truck collision

Pedestrians in Ecuador have had a remarkable escape after a footbridge collapsed into the road following a truck collision.

CCTV footage shows the semi-trailer smashing into the footbridge in Guayaqyuil, a port city in Ecuador, sending it tumbling onto the busy road below.

Luckily no one was injured in the accident with one car narrowly missing becoming entombed underneath the rumble, coming to a halt as the bridge crashes to the road.

Emergency services responded speedily to the accident while council workers with a crane were on the scene quickly to remove the debris and get the road moving again.

It was the impact of the truck's heavy load that sent the bridge's support beams tumbling.

According to local media, the semi-trailer had not been licensed since 2013.

The identity of the drive is unknown.
