Brave passengers board final Flight 666 to HEL

It may be the unluckiest day of the year, but that didn’t stop passengers from boarding the final flight to HEL.

For the past 11 years, Nordic airline Finnair has flown fearless fliers from Copenhagen (CPH) in Denmark to Helsinki (HEL) in Finland on Friday the 13th.

The airline this year decided to retire Flight AY666 on the superstitious-ridden date.

“Today will be the final time that our AY666 flight flies to HEL,” a spokesperson for the airline said.

“As of October 29, some of our flight numbers in our network will change and our AY666 flight from Copenhagen to Helsinki will change to AY954."

The Finnair flight took off from Copenhagen, Denmark, in the 13th hour, headed for Helsinki Vantaa airport.

Finavia, which operates Finland's 21 airports, said the flight touched down eight minutes ahead of schedule at 3:47pm local time to partly sunny skies.

In 11 years, Finnair has flown AY666 to Helsinki 21 times on the unlucky date.

“Farewell to Finnair AY666, but remember, we still have a flight from SIN (Singapore's Changi Airport) to HEL."
