Flash flooding sends torrents of water sweeping through Cornish village

Violent storms in the coastal English town of Coverack in Cornwall has led to flash flooding, prompting dozens of homes to be evacuated.

Emergency services warned people to avoid the area due to the “major flooding”.

Video of the flooding shows fast-moving torrents of water gushing over a barrier and into the ocean, as emergency workers scramble.

The area was hit by heavy rainfall and huge hailstones which smashed windows on Tuesday afternoon, the BBC reported.

About 50 properties have been affected by the flooding but there have been no reports of injuries.

Six people had to be winched by a rescue helicopter after they sought refuge from the raging floodwaters on a roof.
