Fireworks battle caught on camera as Chicago teens light up streets with pyrotechnic display

Teens in the US city of Chicago have been caught on camera using fireworks as weapons in a wild street battle.

Video captured on Tuesday shows around a dozen teens firing the Roman Candles at each other, illuminating the streets of the Illinois capital with a spectacular pyrotechnic show.

Some of the hooded teens were shot with the fireworks at point blank range, showering sparks across Western Avenue.

Police were called after reports of gunfire in the area but instead found the group firing the devices at each other in a running battle.

Initial reports suggested the group were rival gangs but it is now believed the group were friends engaging in wild skylarking.

Officers broke up the battle and no one was injured. 

Video from the street fight has reached nearly 700,000 views online.
