A firefighter in China has rescued a man who was attempting to jump from the roof of a 30-storey building.

Fire crews were called when onlookers noticed him dangling off the side of the high-rise on December 10 in the eastern Chinese city of Suzhou.

He was standing on the building's outer ledge and hitting himself with an iron bar as they arrived.

Friends and firefighters attempted to call for the man to step back.

When he ignored them, his friends kept him distracted as a firefighter jumped from behind a pillar to grab him before he could leap.

In video released by Chinese state broadcaster CCTV, the man appears to be attempting to break free but other firefighters were able to rush in and assist the first firefighter in pulling him over the barrier.

The man was reportedly suffering from relationship issues.
