Firefighter uses mobile to rescue ducklings

When a US firefighter was called on to rescue six ducklings stuck in a storm drain, the first thing he did was whip out his mobile phone.

Louisiana firie Cody Knecht used the phone to play realistic quacking sounds, luring the ducklings towards him in the southeast community of Slidell on Saturday.

The unusual rescue technique paid off - after a great deal of patient waiting.

The first four ducks were rescued after 90 minutes, St. Tammany Fire District #1 spokesman Chad Duffaut told the Associated Press.

The remaining two were given another hour to calm down before being rescued.

Local residents helped locate the mother in a canal behind a home and the family was reunited.

It seems duck rescues are fast becoming the station’s specialty, with firefighters from the same team last week saving a duck that became stuck in a chimney, Mr Duffaut said.
