A cat rescued from an animal shelter is taking over Instagram, taking on Grumpy Cat for the title of angriest looking kitty.
The fierce looking feline, named Pearl, was adopted by Florida man Will Highsmith and his girlfriend.
The Jacksonville couple found their new pet on the Animal Care and Protective Services’ website and instantly fell in love with Pearl’s agitated little face.
“We thought she was cute and figured she’d be gone pretty fast but we got there and turned the corner and there she was,” Mr Highsmith told ABC News.
“We noticed her immediately because of her face.”
Pearl’s permanently angry expression earned her the affectionate nickname ‘Angry Pearl’.
It didn’t take long before Mr Highsmith decided to share pictures of Pearl online, posting them on Reddit, via content sharing site Imgur.
“While we were at the shelter she was looking at me through the bars,” said Highsmith.
“It blew up on Imgur really fast and people were telling me to make an Instagram for this cat,” he said.
“People kept suggesting I do it so I made a few funny ones with funny, little lines all about hate.”
Angry Pearl now has more than 10,500 followers on her Instagram account.
When asked if he ever considered changing his adopted cat’s name, Mr Highsmith said no, the name suited the seemingly always-irritated cat.
“Pearl just seems like an old lady that would be a landlord that would be calling the police on you all the time. We loved it,” he said.
“She’s 'P---ed Off Pearl.'”
