Ferguson braces for more violence ahead of Michael Brown's funeral

Missouri police are preparing for a potential flare-up of emotions and violence in Ferguson ahead of Michael Brown’s funeral tomorrow.

The city has been consumed by violent protests and a strong police presence following the shooting of the unarmed 18-year-old black teenager by police officer Darren Wilson two weeks ago.

Roughly 70 people have marked two weeks since Brown’s death by praying at a makeshift memorial and launching into a rendition of “We Shall Overcome” at the time of his death.

Residents have been praised by Missouri police in recent days for maintaining several nights of peaceful protests but there are fears violence could return to the streets.

Local activists, clergy, US civil rights workers and community activists from around the country have flocked to the city, and say they plan to stay for an extended period.

The National Guard of the United States, initially deployed to regain order, have since withdrawn from Ferguson in response to the subsiding violence.
