Female hockey players ridicule ‘stupid questions’ in viral video

A video satirising the array of silly - and sometimes outright offensive - questions female hockey players face has gone viral, less than a week after it was posted.

The video, titled “Stupid Questions Female Hockey Players Get Asked”, was posted to the Facebook page of Bobby Saretsky on November 25, where it has been viewed more than 78,960 times.

It features members of the University of British Columbia Thunderbirds team satirising the questions they are forced to field on an almost daily basis.

The questions, which range from “Do you wear pink gear?”, to “Do girls wear figure skates?” to “Do you pull other player’s hair?” reveal a widespread lack of public perception about female participation in the sport.

Kristen Toth, a defensive player for the team and also the one responsible for creating the video, has slammed the questions as “ridiculous”.

“The ones we get asked the most are the ones that are even more inappropriate so we couldn’t really put them in the video,” she told Global News.

“These are some challenges that we face on the daily.”

Ms Toth, who created the video for a university assessment, says she has received an A for her work.

She is pleased at the exposure it has received and hopes the video will prove a “catalyst for change”.

“We want to make sure people get the point, the questions you ask are stupid,” she said.
