An Icelandic farmer has captured surreal blizzard conditions raging outside her front door as wild weather continues to move across the country.

Danish-born Rebecca Ostenfeld filmed the run-in at the Hólar, Dalasýsla farm in Iceland's west she shares with her husband and three children at 7am Wednesday local time (8pm AEDT).

"Well, it's morn¬ing now," she says in Danish.

"Let's have a look at the weather, the lovely Ice¬landic weather," be¬fore she opens the front door to reveal a thick, whirling fog of snow and ice, with visibility down to only a few metres.

She bravely peers outside to show a red car blanketed in white snow before retreating the quiet safety of her home once more.

The footage follows reports 16 cars were run off a road at nearby Prenglsi pass, between Reykjavík and the South Iceland villages of Stokkseyri and Eyrarbakki.

The poor weather conditions were expected to continue well into the night with gusts of up to 126km/h at Kjalarnes, north of Reykjavík.

Multiple north and south-bound roads have been closed due to poor visibility and and people are advised not to be on the road, ruv.is reports.
