Explosion rips through Rio street

A fireball has ripped through the streets of Rio De Janeiro after a car carrying gas cylinders exploded.

Video taken from multiple mobile phones on November 8, showed a fire beginning to engulf a car on the side of the road, when a huge explosion suddenly engulfed the vehicle, sending pedestrians clambering.

Emergency services attended the scene and transported 76-year-old Olinto Campos to hospital with minor injuries, Globo.com reports.

The vehicle was nothing more than a charred, twisted wreck of metal by the time fire crews managed the douse the blaze.

Authorities have determined the vehicle was carrying the gas cylinders for cooking purposes, however it us unknown how the blaze started.
