Electric 'fire' glows from man's fingers

A man's hand seemingly illuminated by the rare St Elmo's fire has been filmed in the US.

Rudy Moore captured the phenomenon while standing on frozen Lake Monona, Wisconsin, early last week.

The spooky clip has Moore's fingertips 'producing' blue sparks, as well as a static noise.

"I have never seen this before, it’s like, not believable," he said after apparent flickerings of St. Elmo’s fire danced on his fingers.

The St. Elmo’s fire phenomenon occurs when tiny charges in electricity from an object meet the naturally occurring charges in the air, RT.com reports.

If the charges in the air are unusually high, as is sometimes seen after a storm, the clash can be so great that currents ionize and produce a blue color.

WISC-TV meteorologist Bob Lesh said it likely occurred in the lake because of its frozen surface and snow falling nearby.
