Strong quake strikes off Vanuatu

A 6.8 magnitude earthquake has struck 56km off the Vanuatu capital of Port Vila.
The US Geological Survey reports the quake was felt shortly before 3pm AEDT.

The earthquake was measured at 198km below the Earth's surface.
The US-based Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre reported there was no threat of a destructive Pacific-wide tsunami and no tsunami threat to Hawaii.
The magnitude was revised down to 6.8 from 6.9.
