Magnitude 7.8 quake off Russia triggers tsunami warnings
A tsunami warning has been issued after an earthquake struck off the coast of eastern Russia, but Australia is not in danger.
The 7.8 magnitude quake hit at about 5am off the Kamchatka peninsula at a depth of 9.6 km, according to the United States Geological Survey and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
CNN reported the quake was within striking distance of islands in the US state of Alaska.

NOAA has posted a tsunami warning.
The organisation said waves of up to 1m above tidal levels could threaten Hawaii, while waves up to 3m larger than normal could loom over the Russian coast.
The USGS has also reported multiple aftershocks, up to magnitude 5.8.
The Bureau of Meteorology has confirmed there is no tsunami threat to Australia.
