An unexpected mini tornado has thrown a jumping castle high into the air with a boy still inside it at Children's Day celebrations in Brazil.

The carnival was in full swing on October 12 with families crowded around the rides and attractions on a closed-off road behind a factory.

Suddenly a furious "dust devil" forms in the air near the festival and quickly sucks leaves and rubbish into its vortex.

The tiny twister headed right toward the dozens of families, tipping a trampoline up into the air and tossing it into a row of trees with families sheltering underneath.

The ravaging whirlwind then picked up the jumping castle as children bailed out at the last second.

One boy was unfortunate enough to still be in the inflatable attraction as it took off.

The eight-year-old child was thrown 3m to the ground while the jumping castle flew high into the air and across a field.

Emergency services attended to the boy who complained of back pain but he was later found to be in good shape following an X-ray.
