Massive fire spreading through Dublin hotel

A massive fire is ripping through a hotel in Dublin and while everyone is believed to be evacuated, it's unclear is anyone is injured.

Irish media is reporting the fire broke out in a mid-level floor of the 15-storey Metro Hotel in Ballymun, in north Dublin just after 8pm (local time).

The cause of the blaze, which is burning across at least five floors, is currently unknown.

There are up to 20 units battling the fire and nearby roads have been closed.

The fire has not yet been contained.

Dublin city councillor Paul McAuliffe said debris is falling from the burning building.

"We understand from the hotel staff that all of the people living in the accommodation and residents of the hotel got out safely," Mr McAuliffe said.

"Windows and cladding are peeling off the building and falling down onto the side wing where the hotel is," he said.

"Dublin Fire Brigade are doing their best to make sure the fire doesn't spread from the upper levels down onto the broader-based hotel parts of the building."
