Dubai hidden beneath a blanket of clouds

The city of Dubai has been blanketed in a sea of clouds with only some of the world's tallest building breaching the white mist.

The Crown Prince of Dubai, Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Maktoum, shared video and photos of the incredible scene from his phone yesterday showing the Arab city hidden below a thick layer of fog.

The footage was shared with the royal's 4.3 million Instagram followers with the caption, "A world of opportunities lie beneath".

The fog created a unique visual of the shimmering city which features some of the world's tallest building and unique architecture.

Cloud coverage is a unique phenomenon for the city which usually occurs only twice a year in the early hours of the morning as the weather is transitioning from hot to cold and vice versa.

The last time cloud coverage reached this density was in March.
