Drone captures massive Japanese landslide

Drone footage of a huge landslide near the mountain town of Minamiaso reveals the devastating aftermath of series of powerful earthquakes that recently rocked Japan, killing 42 people.

The footage shows an entire forest of trees, motorways and cars buried underneath a massive river of dry mud pooling into a gaping fracture in the earth.

The magnitude 6.0 and 6.2 quake stuck the island of Kyushu on Saturday killing nine people and devastating infrastructure.

The third magnitude 7.0 quake shook buildings to the ground and injured more than 1000 people.

The landslide cut thousands of residents off from emergency services, forcing many to use chairs and household products to spell out 'SOS' in the hopes aircrafts would spot them.

To better understand the aftermath of the quakes the Geospatial Information Authority of Japan deployed drones, releasing some of the footage in a bid to assists rescue efforts.
