Terrifying moment as car door blows out at 300kmh

An endurance driver survived a terrifying moment when the door of his Audi R8 exploded at 300km/h during the 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps race in Belgium.

German René Rast was at the wheel of one of the fastest endurance cars competing, the e-tron quattro, when the side of his car violently disintegrated.

In a slow motion replay of the incident, everything seems normal with the No.9 entry when the window blows out of the right side of the car, strewing debris across the track.

However, Rast was able to keep control of the damaged vehicle, bringing it into the pits where it took the Audi team less than two minutes to fix the damaged area and return him to the race.

Rast, along with co-drivers Filipe Albuquerque and Marco Bonanomi, managed to finish fourth, one spot behind Australian driver Mark Webber's Porsche team in third spot.

Marcel Fässler, André Lotterer and Benoît Tréluyer in the other Audi entry claimed the win in a total time of just under six hours and two minutes.
