Dolphins attack multiple people at Japanese beach

Four people were injured by dolphins in a series of attacks at a Japanese beach, officials reportedly said.

A man in his 60s suffered broken ribs and was bitten on his hands by a dolphin that rammed into him in the water at Suishohama Beach in Mihami, Fukui prefecture, on Sunday, the BBC reported.

A man in his 40s was bitten on his arm by a dolphin at the same beach later that same morning.

And two other people suffered injuries there from dolphins later in the day.

Officials have put up signs warning people to not approach or interact with the animals.

Despite having a reputation as a "friendly" animal, wild dolphins can become aggressive and stressed as a result of human interaction, experts say.

Their larger cousins, orcas, have been making headlines recently with a number of attacks on yachts in the ocean.
