Dog adopts piglets in Cuban township

A litter of piglets adopted by an affectionate dog have become a tourist attraction in a remote Cuban town.

After the piglet's mother died shortly after birth, their owner, Ignacio Estevez, decided to pair the small animals up with his dog, who had also recently given birth, Reuters reports.

Despite some initial trepidations, the canine's maternal instincts kicked in and she graciously began nursing the litter like they were her own.

"On the first day she was a little hesitant, but ended up giving them [milk] and then a week on, she would arrive on her own volition to feed the piglets," Estevez said.

"This is something that I cannot believe. You need to see it to be believe it, it is something strange," said another, local Yailie Estevez.

The town of Playa Larga has become awash with tourists after news quickly spread around the region about the unlikely coupling.

Mr Estevez said his dog Linda shares her parental duties between the piglets and her own six pups.
