DNA test confirms 'twinsters' separated at birth

DNA tests have confirmed that two adopted women who grew up on separate continents are in fact identical twins.

Anais Bordier and Samantha Futerman, 26, were only three months old in 1987 when they were given up for adoption by their South Korean parents – one going to the US, the other to a French couple.

When Ms Bordier, a fashion student in London at the time, came across a YouTube video of an actress who looked just like her she decided to dig a little deeper into the mystery woman's past, discovering their unlikely connection.

She made contact with the LA-based actress and realised they were born on the same day in Seoul and had both been put up for adoption by the same agency.

"Sam responded with a picture of her birth records. There was nothing there to say she was a twin but then she sent pictures through and it seemed to settle it," Ms Bordier told the Sunday Times.

"It felt like having a heart attack, but it was also the happiest moment - a new world was opening."

Although neither of the girls' birth documents said anything about being twins, their shared birthday was serendipitous enough for the pair - who call themselves 'twinsters' - to launch a Kickstarter campaign to raise funds for a DNA test to discover if they were sisters separated at birth.
