Germans gather to celebrate 25th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall

Huge crowds have gathered in Germany tonight to celebrate the moment in history that signaled the end of the Cold War - the fall of the Berlin Wall.

But 25-years on, the man who paved the way for the wall’s fall has warned the world is on the brink of another global showdown.

At a memorial event to commemorate the anniversary, former Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev warned that bloodshed continues in eastern Europe.

"The world is on the brink of a new Cold War, some are even saying that it has already begun," he said.
