Crocodile fails to live up to killer reputation

Crocodiles are at the top of the food chain but that doesn’t mean they have a 100 percent success rate, as this unlucky predator showed when it twice failed to hunt down its prey.

Incredible footage shot at a river in the South Luangwa National Park, Zambia, shows the crocodile whose cunning is let down by its agility.

As a warthog stops by the river to take a drink the reptile lunges out of the water with open jaws.

But the swine responds with lightning-quick reflexes, dodging the predator and racing off at top speed.

Still hungry the croc slinks back into the water and waits for the next potential victim.

A short time later thirst gets the better of a deer which wearily pokes its snout into the same spot at the rover to take a drink.

The croc fires off its one shot in the locker again but gets the same unsuccessful result with the deer leaping out of harm's way in the blink of an eye.

It is not clear if the reptile eventually lived up to its fearsome reputation and made a kill or went hungry.
