Crane rescues construction worker from burning building

A construction worker has been winched to safety by a crane after the building he was working on became engulfed by flames in Copenhagen.

Footage of last week’s remarkable rescue shows a worker on the edge of the burning building’s roof in Fjeldhammerveji, Rodovre, as billowing black smoke rises and orange flames rapidly approach.

As men in hardhats stand below, gazing incredulously upwards, the silhouette of the worker can be seen dangling precariously above them.

In a scene that could have been ripped from the pages of a Hollywood blockbuster, a crane driver carefully lowers the worker to the ground as the blaze intensifies.

The rescued worker was one of two trapped by the blaze, Danish media TV 2 Lorry reports.

Copenhagen West Police said both builders were rushed to Hvidovre Hospital with burns.

One had burns to his face and hands, while the other had burns to his hands. It is understood their injuries are not considered life-threatening.

The blaze was sparked by the burning of some roofing felt.
