‘Crabs on a train’: Critters take over underground station

UK passengers and conductors have been faced with some unruly passengers when a cluster of crabs attempted to board a train.

The crustaceans were caught on video scattered across a platform in Gateshead, England yesterday as a train conductor attempted to stop them from boarding the Metro carriage.

The crabs were reportedly being transported in a plastic bag by a passenger, but the bag split open and the opportunistic crabs made their bid for freedom, the Newcastle Evening Chronicle reports. 

The human culprit left the scene without attempting to collect and regather the critters, a Metro worker said.

“This wasn’t an everyday occurrence and our staff acted quickly to remove the crabs from the train and platform,” a spokesman for the Metro said.

Unfortunately many of the crabs died in the incident – however, the four survivors were taken in by a sympathetic aquarium owner who has since adopted them.

It is unclear what kind of crabs were involved.
