Couple survives after truck hit by lightning

A Canadian couple have escaped with their lives after the truck they were traveling in was struck by a bolt of lightning.

Surveillance video captured the moment the grey pickup Al and Betty Perry were driving in burst into flames after being hit.

"It sounded like a sonic boom," Mr Perry told Canada's CTV News.

Horrifyingly, the bolt destroyed the car's electrical system, locking the windows and doors, trapping the couple in the growing inferno.

The pair tried breaking through the windows but failed and with thick, black smoke seeping in, they were soon struggling to breathe.

"It was all billowing up in front of my face," Mrs Perry said.

"How are we going to get out of this particular thing? It's an awful feeling to have – we saw our lives flash before our eyes.

"I was thinking this is a coffin," Mr Perry said.

Thankfully, a Mountie was passing by at just the right time and helped the couple out of the fiery truck.
