An attempt by Australian tourists in Bali to have a bit of fun at the media's expense backfired this morning when a woman pretending to be Schapelle Corby failed to move reporters gathered outside a hotel where the drug smuggler is allegedly staying.

The group of four women made the strategic dash in clear view of the media throng outside the Sentosa Villas in Seminyak.

Footage captured by Nine News shows a woman, with her face concealed similar to how Corby dressed yesterday, being led past a group of journalists conducting an interview.

However, instead of racing over to film the woman posing as the former Queensland beautician, the women's stunt barely elicits a reaction from the correspondents.

The women giggle as they lead their friend away from the hotel with a lone photographer snapping photos as he grins, seemingly aware of the ruse.

Despite failing to shift the media throng the women appear content with their prank, laughing loudly in the camera's gaze.

The media contingent continues to monitor the hotel where Corby was yesterday released to after being granted parole almost nine years into her 20-year sentence for smuggling 4.2kg of marijuana into Bali.
