Climbers stuck on mountain ridge saved in dramatic Scottish rescue

Powered by

Two climbers were forced to spend the night perched precariously on top of a ridge in the Scottish Highlands as the temperature plummeted to well below zero.

Dramatic video shows the pair finally being rescued and winched to safety on Saturday morning from the Bidean Nam Bian mountain near Glencoe, the Sunday Post reports.

The helicopter rescue team was unable to reach the climbers when they first called Scottish police more than 10 hours earlier to tell them they were stuck and feared an avalanche.

The pair huddled together for warmth as 15cm of snow fell overnight and the temperature fell to -4C.

The climbers were taken to hospital where they were treated for mild hypothermia but otherwise found to be fit and well.

Four years ago, four climbers were killed by an avalanche on the same mountain.
