Firefighters have been forced to use a circular saw to free a Chinese toddler's thumb from a metal cutlery holder.

The one-year-old's mother walked her son with a friend to a fire station in Suzhou, in east China's Anhui Province.

The young boy had his tiny thumb stuck inside a circular hole in a metal cutlery holder, similar to those used to store or dry cutlery in most homes.

The firefighters started by making small cuts to the metal container using tin snips.

As the boy becomes more and more restless, firefighters were forced to use a circular saw.

A piece of paper was used to shield the boy and his mother from the sight of sparks flying as the sharp blade hit the hot metal.

He sustained no serious injuries, according to CCTV News.
