Australian advisers caught in Mosul chemical attack

Australian advisers have been caught up in a suspected mustard gas attack in Iraq.

Islamic State are believed to have launched a “low grade” chemical attack in Mosul, Iraq's second largest city, on Sunday.

An Iraqi unit with Australian and US advisers was hit, with six soldiers suffering breathing problems as a result, CBS News reported.

No Australians were injured in the attack however up to 25 Iraqis have been affected.

The Pentagon have described the attack as largely ineffective, according to the ABC.

A US Defense official said the foreign advisers were medically screened and showed no signs of exposure. They have returned to duty.

This comes days after IS militants launched another chemical attack in western Mosul.

A rocket containing chlorine was reportedly used.

Gas masks have been distributed to forces throughout the area case of another attack.
