Cheeky monkey robs jewellery shop

A cheeky monkey is $200 richer after breaking into a jewellery shop in India and stealing a wad of cash.

CCTV footage of the heist on a jewellery shop in Pidugurala of Guntur, shows the primate loitering around the shop's front door suspiciously.

When the shop's owner notices he tries to buy the animal off with a piece of fruit.

The monkey takes it but remains focussed on the task at hand, even fighting off a man armed with a stick.

It then bursts into the shop and makes itself comfortable on a chair behind the counter.

The shopkeeper tries to offer the monkey a banana but it keeps its eye on the prize, opening a draw and making off with a wad of cash.

Quick as lightning the animal races out the door with 10,000 rupees ($200).

The monkey remains on the run.
