The moment a man accused of murdering his wife learns she is dead

CCTV has captured the chilling moment a man accused of ordering a hit on his wife on their honeymoon learned she was dead.

Shrien Dewani, 34, is standing trial over the murder of his wife Anni Dewani, 28, while the pair was honeymooning in Cape Town. 

In the video, Dewani, who can be seen in the maroon shirt, is being led down a corridor by another man as a group of people follow closely behind.

After reaching his hotel room, the distressed looking businessman reaches into his pocket and hands over the keys to his companion.

The footage comes on the back of revelations Dewani ordered a 'hit' on a family friend three years earlier in an effort to persuade Zola Tongo, the man he would later allegedly hire to kill his wife, that a fake carjacking would be a good cover story.

Dewani is denying claims by taxi driver Tongo and two hit men that he was the mastermind behind a conspiracy to kidnap and murder his wife following a carjacking ambush that left both Dewani and the driver unharmed in 2010.

Earlier, Tongo told the court that the idea to fake the carjacking was suggested by Dewani during a trip to change money to pay the killers.

His testimony was backed by 'middle man' Monde Mbolomo, who recruited the two gunmen at Tongo's request.

"He (Dewani) went on further to say (to Tongo) that it was not the first time he did this. He did this before in South Africa," Mbolombo told the court.

Dewani is facing five charges, including murder and kidnapping and has denied any involvement in the plot to kill his wife.
