Australia continued to dominate in the pool at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games over night, as Mitch Larkin claimed gold in the 200m backstroke final.

Larkin beat fellow Australians Josh Beaver and Matson Lawson.

The trifecta follows Australian swimmers James Magnussen, Cameron McEvoy and Tommaso D'Orsogna domination in the 100m freestyle the day before.

It was Larkin's third medal of the meet and his first gold of the games.

"It has been a long week, but a fantastic week," he said.

"It feels unreal to get a gold tonight."
