Car explosion rocks Brussels suburb

Two explosions have been reported in a residential area of the Belgian capital overnight.

Media reports say a number of cars were set alight in the suburb of Saint Gilles, in the south of Brussels and about 4km from the European parliament buildings.

A witness at the scene said there were two or three explosions, but firefighters quickly put out the fire.

"Several cars blazed out but firemen quickly put out the fire; now everything in the street is relatively calm," she wrote on Twitter. 

Vision from the incident shared to Twitter by the witness shows blames and smoke engulfing one end of the Belgian street.

Firefighters put out the fires but the cause of the blaze and explosions is not known as yet.
